I was intrigued by the title and was completely enthralled with it when I found out that it was written in 1886. In my opinion the author thoroughly documents the Southern Conspiracy to leave the Union over the Slavery Issue. The bitterness and anger that ran rampant through society struck a cord thinking about the tremendous ideology differences in our country today. The bankruptcy of the pre-civil war treasury appears to mirror efforts today to bankrupt today's treasury. A really good book. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2011 )
