Since the vampires took control of Seattle, and then lost it back to the US, there's a lot of covering up needed. Alyssa bumps into Dante, a vampire, even after not really believing that vampires are real. She eventually ends up accidentally getting bonded to Dante. The main characters show a little more development and individuality than the first book. And I liked how the kid was portrayed; she was a significant part of the story without being overdone. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer in SF -- Accidental Love Bond : We first met our Hero, Dante, in Blood Price, the first book in the series. In this next installment, a civilian and our heroine, Alissa, is hired by the government to create a plausible explanation about the "vampire" uprising in Seattle so the rest of the country doesn't panic. She's not aware that vampires or real until she accidentally meets Dante and he demonstrates his quick speed in front of her. Alissa seems to keep finding herself in the wrong place at the right (?) time when she ends up rescuing a young female vampire, Cora, further entrenching her into the paranormal life she's trying to keep at arm's length. Cora ends up bringing her face-to-face with Dante again, which also brings danger to her door. Circumstances keep bringing these two together even though Alissa tries to fight the supernatural bonding and the earthly feelings she has towards Dante. Though their love story is a bit non-traditional, the feelings they share transcend the normal and paranormal realms to create a comfortable blending of the two. Alyssa is a "fixer" hired by the government to spin the story of the Seattle wall into something more palatable to the GP. She is astonished to learn about the portal the Vopura used to access earth and the fact that there are not one but two kinds of vampires now on Earth.
